Functions  of Media Unit

  • ·       The Media Unit is engaged in publicity on social issues concerning women and children to generate awareness in order to change the mind set of the people against the traditional issues and social evils.
     

  • ·     The objective is achieved through media campaign by press advertisements, release of spots through various TV channels and other means of outdoor publicity. 
     

  • ·     Various wings of Ministry of I&B, viz. DAVP, Doordarshan, AIR, Directorate of Field Publicity and Song and Drama Division are associated with the campaign of this Ministry.

  • ·       The Media Budget of the Ministry is showing a rising trend during the last few years.

Media Committee

       A Media Committee meets in regular interval to decide on the activities to be undertaken from time to time.  At present the Committee is headed by Additional Secretary, MWCD with representatives at Joint Secretary level from all the Bureaus of the Ministry, Director (Media), WCD, Director(Finance), WCD, Director (Print Media), DAVP, Director (Audio-Visual), DAVP, representatives from Doordarshan and AIR.

Details of activities undertaken during the year 2008-09

            During the current financial year 2008-09 a budget of Rs.59.75 crores (including Rs.5.975 crores for NER) was allocated for media activities of the Ministry.

Multi media publicity was given to the issues concerning the Ministry through release of advertisements in prominent Hindi, English and regional languages newspapers across the country. Telecast of spots on DD-I (National Network channels) and private TV channels were also implemented through DAVP.

Print Media

Following advertisements were issued in prominent newspapers in Hindi, English and regional languages across the country during the year 2008-09.

1.            Advertisement inviting Comments and Suggestions from all concerned on the Draft Guidelines on Adoption of Indian Children without Parental Care.

2.           Advertisement on declining sex ratio, on the occasion of Mothers Day.

3.           Advertisement in the memory of the legend Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary month.

4.           Advertisement on the occasion of Independence Day Eve.

5.           Advertisement on Birth Anniversary of Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi

6.           Advertisement on ‘Save the Girl Child / Gender Issue.

7.           Advertisement on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of  Mahatma Gandhi.

8.           Advertisement on the occasion of Deepawali

9.           Advertisement on Death Anniversary of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi.

10.        Advertisement on the occasion of Children’s Day.

11.        Advertisement on Birth Anniversary of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi

Television/DD / All India Radio

         Telecast of video spots on Doordarshan National Network , Private TV channels, Cinema Theaters and Indian Cricket league (ICL) 20-Twenty Grand Championship 2008-09 and broadcast of MWCD spots and Ananya Song  in AIR / Pvt. FM Stations through Doordarshan, All India Radio and DAVP were undertaken.

Publications

          In order to highlight the policies and development programmes formulated and implemented by this Ministry, a quarterly newsletter under the name and title ‘MWCD Newsletter SAMPARK’ is brought out regularly by NIPCCD under the Media Budget Head. Another monthly magazine “Anganvarta” is published  by NIPCCD under Media Budget Head from the month of November 2008 for use by Anganwadi Workers / Helpers at the Anganwadi Centers through out the country.

Participation of MWCD at IITF 2008

           The Ministry participated in the IITF 2008 during the period 14th – 27th November 2008. Hall No.7 A,B,& C in Pragati Maidan was allotted by ITPO to the Ministry. The stalls in this Hall were allotted to participating SHGs listed with CSWB and RMK and their stalls were well stocked. The participating SHGs show cased their products during this period.  The Ministry also organized cultural programmes during this period in association with Song & Drama Division of the Ministry of I&B. The Ministry also sponsored a Laser Show highlighting the themes of this Ministry through a documentary film and a beam show.

Release of  commemorative postage stamp

24th January has been declared as National Girl Child Day to be celebrated each year.  A postage stamp was released on 5.2.2009 at Vigyan Bhawan to commemorate the “National Girl Child Day”.
